Nose is the most important element of both the respiration system and facial aesthetics. If a nose cannot respirate properly, it might cause many problems such as chronic headaches, under-eye dark circles, snoring, dry mouth and chronic fatigue. A successful nose surgery is not just for good looks. If a nose cannot be helped to respirate properly, the surgery is not considered a success.
Beauty of a nose depends on the facial characteristics and personal expectations.
Health is more important than aesthetics. A properly respirating nose is a good nose.
Anatomically, a nasal bone structure consists of nasal bones, ethmoid and vomer, and a cartilage structure consists of lateral cartilages, sub lateral cartilages and ceptum. If there are birth related or acquired (trauma, surgery, medication) deformities In these anatomical structures, they can cause serious respiration problems for patients.
Respiration problems caused by septal deviation can be cured without remodelling through septoplasty surgery or with remodelling through septorhinoplasty surgery.
If the patient has aesthetic complaints about the nose, Rhinoplasty is performed with Septoplasty surgery.
For septorhinoplasty surgeries which generally take 1,5-2 hours, general anesthesia is performed on patients. If the patient has respiration problems special silicon packings which help breathing are applied after the surgery. Necessary precautions are taken to avoid post-surgery black circles around the eyes. However, depending on the tissue structure of the patients, black circles can be seen. These black circles will have declined 5 days after the surgery.
Nearly one week after the surgery, splint is removed from the nose. In the 1,5 months long period after the splint is removed, nose must be protected from any type of trauma. As we stated for Rhinoplasty as well, nose takes the aimed shape in at least 6 months and at most 1 year.
